Zap Mama is a Belgo-Congolese group formed in 1991, fronted by lead singer Marie Daulne.
Zap Mama remained a quintet until 1996, focusing mostly on their own voices which resulted in an a capella style. Their sound, a blend of European and African influences, soon catches everyone’s attention, and their self titled album becomes a success both at home and overseas.
In 1996, Zap Mama’s line up changes, and Daulne finds herself at the forefront of a new band. This time, she moves away from her previous a capella signature style to explore new instruments and styles. This new adventure takes her on a sold out tour around the US.
Bandy Bandy is part of her sixth album, Ancestry in Progress, released in 2004.
Her last album, ReCreation, was released in 2009.
