Two new songs will launch the new album planned for the 5th of May and a long-term tour around America and Europe.
Some artists take years to construct an album while some only need a few months. Mac deMarco is one of them. Hardly two years after his last album Salad Days, the Canadian singer released two new singles to carry on his new “My Old Man” album and the title track “This Old Dog” (featuring a 3D-animated walking dog).
His previous compositions have a very different feeling from this one. The two songs are acoustic and so is the whole album, he confirmed.
“It’s my acoustic album, but not an acoustic one at all. That’s just what it feels like, mostly. I’m Italian, so I guess it’s Italian Rock. The majority of this album is acoustic guitar, synthesizer, some drum machine, and one song is electric guitar. So this is a new thing for me.”
The album was composed during a transition period for the artist. Mac deMarco moved coast to coast, from New York to Los Angeles.
“I demoed a full album, and as I was moving to the West Coast I thought I’d be able to finish it quickly. But then I realized that moving to a new city, and starting a new life takes time. Usually I just write, record, and put it out; no problem. But this time, I wrote them and they sat. When that happens, you really get to know the songs. It was a different vibe.”
The songwriter also announced a bunch of dates for his upcoming spring tour around the US and Canada, including huge festivals like Okeechobee, Coachella, Treefort, Boston Calling and Hangout. Mac deMarco will also perform in some European Festivals, but no concerts have been announced in Belgium as of yet.
This Old Dog will be released on May the 5th and is already available for preorder with the two new tracks.
