[Interview] Amalyah

With an angelic voice, the sweet Amalyah invites us into her universe to tell us about what inspires her, her upcoming projects and the challenges ahead. At only 22 this young girl full of ambition has already been signed to a label and is determined to succeed!

Hey Amalyah, so what made you want to get into music?

Hey! I never really ‘WANTED’ to be a singer .. I know it sounds weird but music was just the only way for me to express my feelings and I fell in love with it so fast.
I decided to turn my passion into my profession when I realized that making music, being on stage and sharing my feelings through all of this, was the only way for me to be happy.
How would you define your musical universe/world? What are your influences/inspirations?

I’m inspired by artists such as Boyz II Men, Musiq Soulchild, Eric Benét, Maxwell, Lauryn Hill,Jazmine Sullivan, Amy Winehouse, Pharrell Williams, Justin Timberlake (for the classics) … and for our ‘young’ artists I would say Ro James, Daniel Caesar, Frank Ocean, Miguel, Samm Henshaw, Bruno Mars, Tori Kelly, BJ The Chicago Kid, Anderson.Paak, Childish Gambino etc .. I would define my music as a mix of soul, RnB and folk.
There have been rumors saying that you’ve signed with a label and that you’re putting an EP together, could you tell us a bit more about it?

I’m actually working on my first EP with my label (Stratos’Fame Music Group), I can’t wait to share it with all of you. I’m so excited to show you a little part of my universe… It will be released in a few weeks! STAY TUUUNED

Who’s there to be found in your Belgian musical environment/entourage?

I always had the chance to be surrounded by a lot of talented people like Krisy, Ozhora, Pierre, Negdee, Youssouf, Adel, Taïbo, Roxy, Céline Angilis, Damso, OPG, … Belgium is a little country FULL of talent. Oh yeah, by the way .. I would like to thank Krisy because he’s one of the most inspiring people I’ve ever met, he always has the right words to give me strength and courage through my life and musical experiences. I also had the honor to work with really cool musicians! We had a group called ‘ NU.DNST’ but due to my lack of time I had to leave the group. Hope I’ll have the chance to perform with them one day.

Your dream (music) collaboration ?

I would LOVE to work with Anderson. Paak, Daniel Caesar,Ro James, Childish Gambino, Miguel and BJ The Chicago Kid (yes, all together) on one of my albums but if I ever had the chance to work with ONE of the inspirations I mentioned a few lines above I would be the HAPPIEST PERSON ON THIS PLANET.

You’re very active on social media, what do get out of it, music-wise? Did it allow you to meet some influential people?

I’m very active on social media, because it’s an easy way to meet people and share your thoughts and inspirations with people all over the world.
I met a lot of AMAZING artists through Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Some of them even became friends !

What’s the next challenge you’ll set yourself to boost your music career?

2017 will be an adventurous year for me and my whole team. I’m going to travel a lot and work on some new projects. So, yes, I’m officially leaving Belgium for a few months.

To you, what’s the outlook for music in Belgium?

I really believe in our Belgian talents and I can’t wait to receive a text telling me that one of them just won a Grammy.

Last question, how do you keep such a big hair bun standing on your head, what’s your secret?

My bun is a part of my personality,YES I’M SERIOUS. I feel naked when I don’t have a HUUUUUUGE bun on my head. Sometimes people even ask me if I’m hiding something in it .. Well maybe .. I’ll reveal it one day.
